I built my Signature system just before i7 came out..

My question is.. was i wrong to not wait and go i7?
Should i sell up and go for it now?..
..or will it make little difference its not worth the price and hassle?

Also any recommendations on my system apreciated

So did I. I upgraded from a Q9550 anyway. I don't regret it. But you really haven't given enough info to determine whether it would be good for you to upgrade or not. What are you doing with your computer?

Don't bother selling it, you wont notice much difference in performance. It's not worth the time/hassle.

Recommendations: IF your motherboard supports Crossfire, get another 4870x2
I guess it might be good if you upgrade it, what do you seem to be doing with your rig?

I mainly use my system for gaming, work and the occasional benchmark while playing with the clock! hehe!

Nah, i dont think that you will see much difference... core i7 is on average 300-400$ more than a c2q build, and for the most part, not much performance differences (unless you are rendering and encoding).

Honestly wait till westmere (probably similar performance to c2q tho because they will be mainly dual cores) or what I am doing, wait for Sandy Bridge (octo core with hyperthreading).

I say no. If you were buying today, maybe, but since you already own it, the difference would not be that much assuming you are like most others here and game/benchmark a lot. (what error means is, what do you use your PC for. there are some applications that will run better on i7 than 775 clock for clock)

CF on a p45?

8x8 CF on X2's = very bad bottleneck

Steve, that's a sweet rig you have there. The cost to upgrade to an i7 rig isn't worth it right now. Although i'm thinking about doing it myself, but I am going to sell two rigs for the money to get an i7 rig.

i7 is awesome but your rig already is awesome so I think since you already have C2Q it probably isn't worth it. If you were building from scratch different story.

Recommendations: Trying buying a Velociraptor those drives are killer fast, but your current raid 0 is good to. Other than maybe another 4870x2.

Not sure where to go from here though!

I will most likely wait for my next pay day;
Get another 4870x2 (or wait for next x2 series??),
Max out RAM?
And then buy my gf a present for putin up with me (And my lazy grammar) for over 2 years! Hah!

dont go with i7, selling your rig and switching would put you back like 1k dollars and only get you like a 5% performance increase in only a few applications. if you want to spend some money get a x48 mobo, another 4 gigs of ram, another 4870x2, and get yourself some watercooling.

Perhaps I shouldn't of just bought another p45 board? (UD3P).
Is it worth sending it back for X48 ?

If you're going to run crossfire, I would get a x48.

Don't bother with i7.

Which board would you say has the over clocking potential of the UD3P..?
Maybe ill stick with P45 until I do switch to i7 and save a few pounds from the x48 on something else for now?

If you already have a 4870x2, I would upgrade to a larger monitor instead of another. A single 4870x2 would be fine for a pretty big monitor.

currently, ive seen some benchies that say i7's arent that much better than a q9650. Although, thats not gonna be true within the next few years, as i7 is new, it needs to be in circuit for a while, so software can catch up. Then it will pounce all over everything under i7.
