Just sad

I went to my local Gamestop and there vast library of PC games consisted of this. This my be a YMMV type thing, but I'm sure other Gamestops are just like mine and this is probably why PC gamers are taken a more liking to Digital Distribution and setups like Steam/Impulse. Just wanted to hear other thoughts.

Mines worse than that. Same shelf, with the bottom 2 rows full and the third about halfway full.

Yea I took the picture with my phone, so quality isn't that great, but still that small shelf is all their PC games.

Same over here...

EB Games - lucky to have even a shelf.
Gamesmen - 3 shelves but shrinking
Large retailers - big box near the checkout

<sigh>

Now do you think this happened because of piracy or game developers 'consolization' of the industry?

You can't pin it all on one thing.

It's a combination of those two, plus the success of Steam and other digital distribution services.

My game stop doesn't even have a shelf or a box. I have to drive all the way to a Mircocenter or a Fry's and one of those is about a 45 min drive.
I wouldnt make a generalisation... it also appears business' like mail order eg Games Warehouse, are doing a thriving trade.

Maybe its not worth the cost to store fronts with digital distribution. The market appears to be evolving.
Starcraft on the top shelf, I don't see a problem here

honestly I think I noticed something like this 3 months ago. sad really, as I prefer getting hard copies. People are starting to favor buying online for the reason that theyll find what their looking for and have better availability of items and all in one spot, home. just a glimpse into how its shaping up to be. ??????PROFIT?

You have that the wrong way around. Game shops are dropping PC titles because we're moving to digital distribution. They just aren't selling enough discs anymore.

Yeah the Best Buy I work at has a pretty decent setup for PC games

The thing is, most PC gamers are more savvy when it comes to technology than console gamers are. Most of your average consolers are kids (teens and preteens), college guys, and some dads. With a console, you just have to stick the disc in there and play...there is a bit more involved with PC gaming, such as how high you can jack up your graphics settings or what's causing things to run all choppy.
I agree Sethy666, it also may have a thing to do with marketing strategy. Corporate looks at districts and then stores level (by themselves) and from the statistics they have pulled from previous months, they send based off that. I'm sure you can ask Gamespot or EB games to order whatever flavor of pc game you want.
i ask my gamestop if they sale them and they tell me gamestopped stopped selling pc games for years
