My current keyboard (Eclipse II) is getting a little old, and generates enough clicking noise that it drives my wife up the wall.

Suggestions on a new keyboard that won't ever make that kind of noise, no matter how old? If that's not possible, at least one that starts out quiet and takes a while to get louder. I'm open to mechanical keyboards or anything else out there. Gaming keyboards...I can take em or leave em, though I do like backlighting. That's what drew me to to the Saitek Eclipse line. Not any keyboard have the ability to switch between colors, which as silly as it sounds has become pretty important to me -- red when the lights are out and blue when the lights are on.

Okay...not that important. There aren't many options out there with multiple backlighting colors.

Was considering a Deck, but I'm not sure how loud the various mechanical keyboards are and the otherwise wonderful mech kb guide at the top of the forum doesn't say. Unless by "Clicky" it means "loud"?

Thanks

Clicky means loud, your wife will likely kill "someone" if already annoyed by a Saitek.

Even the non clicky mech keyboards, are usually way louder than the rubber dome ones.

I suggest an Apple aluminum keyboard. Or better, get a new wife.

I'm along these lines too. Just get her a pair of headphones and tell her to shut up.

Or, find a deaf woman to marry.

This is a great suggestion.

I don't know why everyone gets a boner over the mechanical keyboards. i HAVE an IBM M keyboard and, other than being INSANELY tactile, I didn't notice any 31337-ness to it.

I would go with Razor Lycosa as well. I was in the same situation, kind of, and this thing is dead silent on all keystrokes. Built very well and the rubber coated keys are so nice for those long game nights.

Black Alps are louder (i.e. ABS M1)

Aren't Cherry browns quiet?

Type on a smooshy notebook keyboard or a Dell generic keyboard.... you will appreciate what you have!

They're loud in terms of bottoming out, the switches themselves dont make that much noise.

Loudest keyboard? The IBM Model F by far. Think of shaking a large aluminium can half-filled with pennies...

Another vote for an Apple Keyboard, or some clone thereof.

If you don't bottom out when typing, MX Browns are really quiet in my experience. I would imagine Reds/Blacks would be similar in terms of noise.

The Model F isn't really that much louder than a Model M... except the spacebar.

Depends on the rivets in the Model M. The Model F is way more pingier, especially when typing on it quickly. Model Ms in good condition won't ping as much.

Well, regardless, the F's shotgun spacebar is still the loudest sound I've ever heard from a keyboard.
