Kingston Fury Renegade 2x8 3200 testing in progress

648 7

Thaiphoon won't work, not sure why, tried running as admin and disabling windows defender: SK Hynix confirmed in CPU-Z, most definitely should be DJR.

Initial test was to try and get 3800CL14 G1, to work, it boots but hangs on startup with 1.6v vram, 1.4v VDDQ, 1.35v SA.

3800CL15 is working currently, I think this ram might need a lot more VDDQ for lower CL, so right away its not close to Micron Rev B doing 3800CL13 at stock VDDQ and 1.6v.

Hmmm, so not a very good kit this, decent for the price though.

Initial G2 testing, 4200CL16 will not work like 3800CL14, tried 1.6v Vram and Vddq, 1.35v SA, all other timings at default.

4200CL17 is working, so it looks like a 3800CL15 / 4000CL16 / 4200CL17 kit, still decent but not as good as Micron.

Will see how much higher it goes on just frequency and CL after stability testing 4200CL17.

So 4200CL17 at 1.4v VDDQ errored, bumping it to 1.5v VDDQ appears to work, along with 1.6v Vram and 1.35v SA.

Lets see how much higher I can get it next.

Well that was a pointless waste of time, it won't go any higher. 4266CL18 wont boot, and 4400 auto CL won't boot either. I tried between 1.4-1.6v on both vdimm and vddq.

So its decent for G1 frequency and timings for the price, but nothing special.

Hynix DJR should do better on Gear 2; can achieve 5,000+ MHz much easier than Samsung/Micron B-die.
It should but I think these must be gimped low bins, or do they have Hynix C die?

Thaiphoon suddenly not working sucks.

I currently have the timings down to 4200 17-21-21-38-575. Neither 20-20 nor 36 boot.

That doesn't seem like CJR, its most likely just reject pile bins of DJR.

So the lowest the timings will go at 4200 is 17-21-21-38-470. Not bad for £58.

Might try for max G1 settings next and compare it i the bandwidth & latency contest.

Yeah, it seems like a very low bin, since my Kingston 3600 2x16GB does 4200 16-22-20-28 at 1.6V 1.25/1.35, plus it's DR.
Also this needs 1,425v VDDQ, 1.4v gives errors. I didn't try lower than 1.6v vram and 1.35v SA though.

Unfortunately there weren't any 2x8 3600 kits anywhere, only 2666CL13 and this, for 2x16 there was 3200 and 3600 with only a £2 price difference, so if getting 32 Gb obviously get the 3600.

2666CL13 isn't anything special, even my 5 year old 2x4 Gb kit does 2400CL10 with just 1.45v, 2666 it could do CL11-12.

Testing for max G1 tuning at 4000 CL16, Tras can drop from 38 to 34, trfc only from 470 to 460.

20-20 middle timings still dont work, and not tried for CL15 yet, will check for that after testing 460 trfc.

It seems like the 3600 kits can do 4200CL16, the 3200 kits 4200CL17, only these ones are on sale and no 3600 kits for 2x8.

So 4000CL15 also won't boot, but tras dropped further to 32, which is surprising since 36 won't work at 4200.

One annoying thing with these is that the thermal pads dont connect to the two outermost chips:

Apparently its the same on all the Renegade modules and mentioned in several reviews.

Also just plugged them into my G4560 to get a Thaiphoon read, Hynix D die confirmed:
