I'm sure most of us saw the delay coming. Now it's official.

Hello Black Mesa fans!

We come to you once again with an update. It's now the end of 2009, and we know many of you have literally counted the days down until this fateful month. We are floored by the level of support you have given us and are very excited we're so close to reaching our goal.

Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release.

Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that's (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.

Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn't quite make it, we have come very close, and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We'll be sure and update if anything changes. Until then, hang tight, it's coming!

Also, here's some screenshots to tease.

At least it should be fairly stable at release. What I've seen so far, it is going to be awwwwesome.

As long as it works, I don't care when it comes out. I've been following the project for awhile, and I'm super excited.
THis will be one of he best mods for HL2 EVER!

Its a source engine mod for the original Half Life.
But I know what you meant.

Oh and you are wrong in your statement...this will be THE best mod ever!

I want to see this game brought to reality, and Mario Kart: Source brought to fruition.
It sucks that it got delayed, but when it does release it will be great. I've been playing through HL1 on my netbook a little at work.
I've been waiting for this for years. I can wait another year.
FFFFUUUUUUU-

-NNN to wait.

So it isn't going to be a new storyline then, but rather the original HL with better graphics than HL Source offered?

I think it's about time for a new source engine tbh

don't get me wrong, the current one is great but sooooooooo played out. HL series/CS/DoD source all look the same to me

Unless I have misinformed myself...

This is the original Half Life absolutely remade from the ground up using Source. It will be VASTLY superior to HL Source because only HL Source was not a total conversion but just a couple visual tweaks with some textures, water and NPCs.

Yes. This mod will also have co-op and some multiplayer deathmatch modes.

Actually, Dannythm is right. Black Mesa is a Half-Life 2 mod. It says it on right their home page. They also call it a "Half-Life 2 total conversion".

Basically, yes.

It's "Half-Life: Source, done right" IMO.

EDIT: I remember reading comments about Black Mesa from one of the creators (on a forum discussion, possibly)... and IIRC, they wanted to preserve the original storyline as much as possible.

Do want.

And also happy to wait a bit longer in order to get a better product in the long run.
HL Source didn't even include the high definition pack that came with blue shift.
if after all this time they dont even include aim-down-sight i'll freak out.

cant wait for it though. everyone needs to play the original half life story again. not like they need another reason..

ROFL

I've seen some brief gameplay videos of Black Mesa, and I don't believe I saw any ADS (aim-down-sight) action. I doubt it will be added in, but I could be wrong (just guessing).

I don't really mind the lack of ADS in HL games... as I'm more in it for the story. But I always thought it was funny in CS:S how you could hit someone at a huge distance - with a pinpoint hipshot from an AK. lol

they're taking a page out of Valve's book, what with Valve time and all

here's hoping it comes soon, and not in like another 6 years...
