L4D on a 6600GT?

Hey OCN,

As of right now I have a 6600GT - 128MB
. I got it off a friend that let me borrow it until I can get myself an 4850.

I was just wondering what kind of FPS would a 6600GT get on L4D? The Res that I would be playing would be 1024x768.

I ran a 6600GT w/ Athlon X2 2.6GHz 2GB Ram on 1280x720 lowest settings and got i *think* 25-35 frames.

You should be fine though on 1024, considering everything else that you have there.

my brother ran TF2 (same engine as L4D) @ medium 1440x900 above 30FPS with a 6200 and a Celeron D 2.8ghz and 2GB RAM, and a 6600 is quite a bit better, and so is your CPU. At 1024x768 you should be able to crank up a couple settings (NO AA/AF OF COURSE)

Agree. You may get a bit of lag when a horde piles you but that is it.

My old card was a 7600, which is better - but originally and at the time a competitor somewhat to those cards. the Source engine is incredible in my opinion - and very scalable.

given those resolutions, and what the previous dude said about the higher resolution - and I think you'll be fine. Just make sure you don't go and try to tap out the effects or anything. It sounds like you'll have the 4850 soon.

think of it as incentive to buy your 4850 when you put this thing in. It will make it so much better when you do.

Just make sure you do the driver switch properly and take out all the old Nvidia stuff when you upgrade.

Also note I had a 4650 before I had my 4870...and I was kinda mad at what I didn't perceive as a marked increase over my old 7600. Problem solved with the 4800 series. You'll be loving it dude!
lockdown... did you see the gun thread from earlier today... I had some posts on it... I think you'll like: http://www.overclock.net/suggestions...-pictures.html
it should run fine @ Low.

In a spot I ran HL2 EP2 on a 6600GT while I waited on my 8800GS and sold my 7950GT. It ran 10x7 low and did just fine, 40-50FPS.

Plop it in and find out! Can't hurt right?
