L4D2 Question

I want to know if L4D2 has the same feel as the first one.

I didn't like the first one because it felt too...how do I explain it...flimsy? Almost like it didn't feel solid. Im not talking about just mindlessly shooting zombies(which is a ton of fun), but the actual feel of the game.

I hope somebody knows what I mean

When I first played it I thought "this should have been an expansion pack costing half the origonal game". It feels the same to me, not that it isn't fun though.
Yeah, luckily I didn't buy the first one, played it on my mates machine for 5 minutes and it just didn't feel right.

I know that the game has loads of potential, but I dunno, it just didnt feel right.
I'm enjoying Left 4 Dead 2 over Modern Warfare 2. I liked Modern Warfare (my most play game to date, 23 days play time) > Left 4 Dead, but I like Left 4 Dead 2 > Modern Warfare 2. I'm not sure about what "feel" you mention, because it feels just like Half-Life 2 did when I first played it.

Anyway, it's a fun game, I'm enjoying it a lot. Scavenge mode is addictive, definitely my favorite game type.

I played the first one during the free weekend event for like 30 minutes. I just didnt like it. Zombies seem to move way to fast, i just didnt like it. I have been playing the crap out of the L4D2 demo though and its awesome. To me it feels like a whole new game (which it is) and i think its alot more refined.

My copy should be here in the mail today. Why dont you download the demo and try it out? Its completely worth it.

i've been playing L4D1 since launch day, same with L4D2. and i can tell you, L4D2 is WAY better, its everything you'd ever want in a frantic zombie survival shooter. cant recommend it highly enough.

the Versus mode is so much fun.

When you say it feels like a whole new game, what exactly do you mean by that? What seems to have changed from the first one? And by refined?

well for starters, the introduction of melee weapons. the new physics and gore system goes amazingly well with that. smashing heads to bits with axes, baseball bats, katana swords etc.

then there are the new special infected such as the Spitter, a real pain in the arse but a treasure to be in Versus, the Charger a sort of miniature tank which while easy to kill is quite a challenge when they get you in a narrow hallway. and the Jockey, a little *blank* of a thing that jumps on your head and rides you into danger while hackign you with claws.

the levels are also much more open, more colourful and allow for even more strategies to implement.

and we also have new weapons, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

i could go into even more detail if you want...

Ok, thanks for that. Helps with my impression of the game, still not what i was looking for, but brilliant none the less

If I am interpreting your question correctly, I think that you will be as underwhelmed with L4D2 as you were with L4D.

The faces, voices and locales may have changed (as well as some tweaks to mechanics), but the inherent "feel" is much the same: Gratuitous wholesale carnage that lacks a coherent storyline.

Some parts feel the same.

They have raised the difficulty in all the stages though. Normal feels like advanced, advanced feels like expert. Expert feels like it should have been called intense, because you will often be repeating the round more than a handful of times because it is very, very hard.

It doesn't feel like they could have put it as DLC, although it does build heavily on the first. The main reason I say this is because they add new weapons and such, which could have been added as DLC, however, the Source Engine has been improved significantly for the second one, and I don't think that the Source Engine in the first one would be able to handle Left 4 Dead 2.
I think it's pretty much the same feel. I liked the old characters better, but I love the new melee weapons and larger weapon selection.
Yeah its around the same but way better than the 1st one with melee weapons and more.
Seems everybody has missed the point, my fault though because i couldnt explain myself properly. What i kinda meant was, it feels almost as though the mouse was made of jelly. Weird i know, but thats just how it felt. It felt fake, and nothing like hl2 at all. When you held the gun, it felt like you had strenght, but l4d felt like you were a weak skinny man with paper for arms. If that makes any sense at all. I also cant give the demo a shot because i havent got internet and to enable a game on steam requires a bit of money due to the cellphone costs i need to pay, so downloading the demo is too much. Hence why i dont want to make a mistake buying this game.
Well if you didnt like L4D, I doubt you would like L4D2.
I believe the OP does not appreciate the game mechanics in the first l4d. Not sure what specifically it is but im a valve engine kind of guy, into my css and half lifes from day one. L4d give me that feel but with more freedom of movement in meele and jumping etc.

Aside from this aspect of the game, l4d2 is a killer title and well worth investing in. Just my fps, zombie slaying opinion.

Good luck.

Who said anything about it trying to be like HL2?

Anyways, I think the Valve wanted the game too look and feel a certain way (just how they are as a developer). Also, I think that the way the characters present themselves adds to the fact that it is a zombie apocalypse and that it is 4 people vs an entire horde. They want you to feel like the underdog which comes out on top, and if they made the characters feel strong and empowered, it would not provide you with the same feeling of accomplishment.

Lol still not, ok, i dont have a problem with no story, i dont have a problem with mindlessly shooting zombies, or the game mechanics. Nevermind, im going to get the game, i hope you lot are right

L4D 2 = the same old matchmaking issues as the first. Bought it a couple days ago and I've been "playing" it for maybe 3-4 hours. Playing is in quotes because the majority of the time I am in a game lobby or switching between a laggy server back to the game lobby. No exaggeration. 3 hours in game, maybe 2 sections of a map completed... 0 of them with a total of 8 people. If IW can make a matchmaking system that fills games up why does valve have such trouble doing it?

/rant

I've been a huge valve fan, but this game has made me lose about 1/2 the respect I had for them.
