Hey all,

Specing out my future build I am planning for March 2010 (Maybe Fermi will be released and the 5850 will go down in price???). I wanted to show everyone what I was thinking. I am going to take this LANpert around with me when I travel for work and go to LAN's on personal times. Rig is also going to double as my HTPC when at home and not in travel mode. Traveling with my 23" LG I have now, and outputting as an HTPC at home with my Sony 1080p Projector/42" LG 1080p LCD. Then I will have a AMD/ATI rig and an Intel/Nvidia rig. Fanboyish extremes... maybe?

Deciding to not keep monitor in the wish list. Updated op again. Any feed back out there?
I did a build like this not to long ago. Your temps should be alright, I wouldn't overclock like crazy though.

Everything will fit fine, before you make the choice of the lanbox check out lian li's cases.

Thanks. I checked out their cases and I don't like any of them they are all very plain jane. I like the handle on the Lanbox for portability and the window for aesthetics.

maybe a 700 watt for the 2 GPUs. I think they are more power efficent but I still like to safer than sorry. 650 should be fine since its a quality 650 watts

But nice build nevertheless, im a big fan of cooler master HSF

Im not a big fan of DDR3 memory. When the RAM is one of the most expensive component of the entire system, you may want to rethink it

SSD are OK, superfast, dont have to wait for the spinning/hour glass, but the life degrades with usage. Its a toss up.

Heat shouldnt be an issue, you have some top notch tech in there including nice sound card/SSD/DDR3. Its pricey but thats all relative.

Edit: Mewegh says the lanbox case is unavailable...

Also... what reason do you have for 8gb of ram? 4gb is generally plenty.

And from what I've read a 955 is a little bit better price/perf wise, as they both get about the same clocks when oc'd. Could save a little money goin with 4gb and a 955.

Best part is all of this will be cheaper in 4-6 months anyhow

I would build a MicroATX i7 with a classified micro. You would also get better performance.

If I were to build another miniature computer, I would use that itx p55 board from dfi. That board makes me smile. Pair it with that sweet lian li case for one bad ass lan set up.

Thank you for your input. I picked expensive RAM because I want this to run as fast as possible. The SSD is because I am going to be moving it around and I want instant performance <no waiting>.

Your name is faster is better, you should know why I went with 8gb! Because I want this to run extremely fast!! I am a huge multi-tasker that involves playing movies, music, surfing, and gaming at the same time. 4 gb may not be enough for all of that so I doubled that to solve my worries and "future proof" it. I'm not worried about saving $20 on the 955 instead of 965, it isn't much of a price/performance issue to me. Yay for cheaper parts!

I want AMD/ATI for this rig.

Saw it. Doesn't come with a handle. Shipping from Europe. I'm looking at around ~200 for a case that I would have to mod to be happy with. I appreciate the input but I don't think that is something I want anymore even though it looks great.

Ah Lian Li cases are so boring

Thanks everyone for the feedback

it seems you like the very miniature cases, but, you may also want to take a look at the CM Storm Scout. This is a midtower with a handle, it's a very good case, you won't have to worry about space and modding and high temperatures.

I like the case a lot it is very appealing. However, the whole thing behind my liking miniature cases for this build is that I am going to have it sit on my entertainment shelf and travel with it. The Storm Scout is double the size and double the weight making it really not portable for what I am looking for. Thanks for the input though.

Heres my 2 cents.

I personally have something against the TT lanbox, it has poor airflow, looks strange and for the amount of money you pay for it you can get a much better matx case.

In my opinion the 2 best matx cube cases on the market are the Lian-Li PC v351, and DaBox, granted DaBox hasn't been released yet. These two cases both have much better airflow through them due to the ability to fit 12mm fans to them. They are also a lot more moddable, meaning you can do a lot of work to them to make them exactly as you want. Also, DaBox can fit a full sized heatsink with push pull 120 fans, this is a HUGE advantage to the tiny amount of space that the lanbox gives you. You will actually be able to get some decent overclocks in DaBox, and as you are going to be using 2.5" drives you have room for 4, thats right, 4 drives, nearly unheard of in a matx cube. The build quality of lian-li and DaBox is also a fair amount higher than TT so it wont fall apart when you move it alot.

If you find that these cases are too "bland", remember you can always do some mods, it makes showing off your case all the more fun.

Hope this helps.

you can buy some handles from performance-pcs.com and mount them on the top
