Laptop Audio

Since I'm now using my laptop, the speakers aren't that great.
I've been looking at getting a pair of these.

I'm not looking to spend a thousand dollars on headphones etc. I'm not that picky about how my music sounds. I also know you can mod them to make them a little bit better.

My biggest worry was the onboard audio out. I'm afraid that it might suck and just make the experience horrible. I have done some searching and some people suggested getting a DAC?

I do believe I read someone talking about a uDAC2. But I'm not looking to spend 100$. Like I said, I'm not that big into making the most out of my music experience. I just enjoying listening to music etc.

Enough rambling.
Would the HARX700's be okay with onboard audio? Will it hinder the sound etc? If so, what is something you recommend making my experience better?

if your not looking to spend $100 on a fairly cheap dac then dont bother just go with the headphones at only $34-$40 you`ll be happy even without the dac.

Thanks guys.
It's not that I don't want to throw money into it.
It's more or less, my laptop is a temp thing.
I don't want to throw money at it, then not need it later on.

Any more recommendations would be great.
Very interesting.

I'm assuming it takes power via USB & takes the audio out from the headphone port to the DAC? Then does it's magic and off to the headphones?

Sorry, I'm a little new to this whole audio thing.

USB is used for power and data. The analog RCA input shown shouldn't be used; no point in getting a DAC then as onboard is doing the processing.

Oh really? I was looking at the image on the page and that's what I had thought... lol...

Interesting. I might pick that up. Isn't too expensive either.
I have a 2.1 setup, but I can't be using that at night time when people are sleeping. So I'd much rather have some good headphones to listen to music.

Yup, all that's doing is simply rerouting the audio - it bypasses all the DAC components as the digital signal has already been converted to analog.
