Laying tower on its side=better cooling?

thats a good idea. but its already been used. kinda. htpc cases are laid out like a sidways tower. i was actualy consittering one for that reason.idk about leaning a tower case on its side tho cuz maybe the hdd wont work properly. idk. it seems logical tho.

I have thought about doing that myself, but they make heat pipes to work with the case standing up.Not sure what it would do to temps if the case was on it's side?

It takes up alot more space on its side too.

I've seen computers at the shop with drives mounted in almost every way you can think of (well; not perpendicular... that would be silly). They all run fine, at least they do when I'm done working on them.

Standard drives use an electro-magnetic / magnetic combination so positioning doesn't matter as long as it's stable.

You guys should know that Silverstone and Lian Li make cases where the Psu is seperated from the rest of the case, and in the silverstone case i believe the mobo is mounted upside down so that the CPU is low and in contact with its air tunnel.

The easiest way to lower cpu temps is to either buy a case with a port on its side right above the cpu or to make one urself. Cool air directly to the cpu always wins. If you dont get it, search newegg for the case in my profile.

hard drives shouldn't be an issue... think about the ipod or other portable storage devices using a hard drive; they really don't care what position they're in.

I wonder how this would work with a water setup... although I have no intention of putting my case on its side I wonder if it would do anything for case temps? I mean, the water kit is a sealed system once you get it installed... it shouldn't matter what position the case is in as long as the pump is below the resivoir and the out fitting is below the waterline.

the ipod nanos and shuffles use flash memory... all the other ones are hard disk based.
