LCD TV not as clear as a computer monitor

3887 Views 23 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  crashnburn_819
So I picked up a 23" 1080p LCD TV and tried using it as a computer monitor, but the picture is horrible. The text is all fuzzy like I was trying to use a non-native resolution, but my computer was outputting 1920 x 1080.l

By accident, I switched to 1680 x 1050 and the text became really clear.

Any help?

Maybe you need to play around with the sharpness setting.
Tried that.

Didn't work. The wierd thing is that the 1680 x 1050 res looked more clear than the 1080p.

I do see in the manual that the sync polarity for 1080p is H+/V- and 1680 x 1050 is H-/V+

Whatever that means...
H stands for horizontal and V stands for vertical, but I can't help you further

What are you using to connect the TV to the computer? And as far as I know, TVs never have made good computer monitors, but hopefully this TV just has an issue that you can fix.
Are you using DVI or VGA?

Edit: or DVI to HDMI?

EDIT: What model is the TV?
its almost certainly the refresh rate.
try setting it to 30hz

Isn't 30hz 1080i and 60hz 1080p?

Samsung 2333HD.

I'm using the DVI-to-HDMI dongle that was included with my HD4850 and connecting the HDMI cable from the video card to the TV. I have successfully enabled sound to go through the HDMI cable to the LCD TV, but I can't get the resolution right.

I've tried every possible combination.

So far, 1680 x 1050 gives me the best possible picture. When I select 1080p, it's like the monitor is doing some form of overscan/underscan.
One more thing is that the LCD TV came with some driver cd, but I don't want to install it because this TV is not my main monitor and I don't want to screw with my main monitor...

And this should work without some drivers.
lcd tv's, for computers, sometimes are fuzzy with hdmi, my new 32" is the same way, couldnt get right res either, had to use a vga cable

Alright, something's definitely up.

I just hit 1600 x 1200 and my monitor should technically not be able to display it, so some type of adjustment is going on here.
What is the DPI setting?
OK.

So now if I use a DVI cable, I can get 1920 x 1080 goodness in all its crispness and clearness ever.

But with an HDMI cable, I can't get it to display 1920 x 1080 properly.

I want to use the HDMI cable for the sound properties and the HDMI cable came free with the set.
Well, at least you've got good visuals now.

That's really strange. Maybe you are using a crappy quality HDMI cable?

True. One step at a time I suppose.

BTW, this is the Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD.

I bought it for $250 at Costco, but YMMV. The price says $300, but there's $50 off coupon in the book.
