Hello,
I come here because I have a problem with my hard drive and I dont know how to fix it.
It started a couple of weeks ago, when I turn on the laptop the hdd started making a chainsaw like sound, but then when the "starting windows" letters appear the sound would go away.
A few days later it got worse because when I turned on the laptop the computer would take a while to start, like it couldnt find the hdd to boot from.
I had to restart it, go to the boot setup, and sometimes the HDD didnt show on the boot priorities, so I had to restart it many times until I would load windows correctly.
At this point I did a backup of all my data. The strange thing is that after the problem booting, everything worked normally, like nothing happen.
I run the startup repair, thinking it could help, but it didnt.
Then, one of this days, the computer loaded windows but saying that the explorer crashed, so it was just the background and no icons or anything.
So I decided to install windows again, using the recovery key that comes with this model.
At first I thought that the problem was fixed because after reinstalling windows (7 64 bits) it was doing fine, and I restarted the laptop because of the many updates and stuff you do when you install windows from scratch. So I wen to sleep very happy thinking the problem was solved, but then the following day I turned on the laptop and the same thing happens. It coundnt find the hdd to boot from.
And here I am, I downloaded CrystalDiskInfo, and it says I have the drive at risk because it says:

C5 Current Pending Sector Count Actual 200 , Worst 200

I have no idea what that means, but searching the web I found out that maybe the HDD Regenerator could help, so I download it and selected the option to scan all sectors and repair the bad ones.
But after three hours it said that all sectors were alright.
I also downloaded Tuneup Utilities 2013 and Tuneup one click maintenance, but again nothing helped.

If anyone could help me with this , I would be very grateful.
Thanks

PD: I leave here some information that could help.

It potentially might not be the harddisk drive. You could have a bad Intel Chipset driver install, or potentially the Chipset itself is bad on the internal motherboard. You might need to go to intel or (AMD) and download their latest chipset driver for your platform.

I have had a HDD with C5 errors like yourself, that ended up being nothing. I discovered it on accident playing with CrystalDiskInfo. If you know who makes your HDD (i.e open it up and see if its Western Digital or Seagate) they have physical testing tools that only work with their HDDs so give that a try too.

Judging by the sounds your HDD motor might being go bad or suffering damage from a potential drop or shake (its very rare now a days with the 300G protection on modern disks.)

Potentially plan for the worst, and start pricing a 2.5" inch drive (recommend SSDs myself).

In the meantime you should test to see if their is any file corruption inside of Windows 7. To do that run in an Admin Command Prompt: sfc /scannow

First of all, thank you for replying.
I will give it a try to your advice.
Right now is the second time and reinstall windows, and everything works fine until I shut down the laptop and turn it on the next day.
I will look into the chipset driver, I hope its not the motherboard becuase I would have to throw the entire laptop to the trash then ... : /
