I will be using this build for general every day usage, photoshop/adobe packages, watching movies (have a 24" samsung monitor), and playing some games such as GTA IV. (which i had ran off a C2D en8800gt quite laggy older PC)

i want to overclock cpu for fast video encoding of movies i download.
also be able to make movies and compile movie data fast.
thanks for you suggestions mate

Well if you are going to be legally backing up movies that you own, you are going to need more than an SSD, as the limited capacity of an SSD will quickly fill up.

Also I doubt you will go very far with any game using the on-board graphics, you might get playable frames on the lowest settings with non-demanding games. (Adobe utilities can also be accelerated with CUDA processing)

no the SSD will only be for OS and most used applications, not for storage as i will have a spinpoint f3 large enough for storage.

what graphics card could you recommend me then

~$150
that would be suitable enough for some modern games.

ssd caching is the feature i like in the Asus z68 Pro
and will use the igp along with the added dedicated graphics that you suggest me, to play the games.

You can get a 460 for around that price on newegg. You can overclock it to squeeze some more performance out of it.

will it all fit into the Antec 900 v3 series CASE???
do you know if this case is a good one in terms of upgradeability and durability by any chance?

You probably could find better ram for that price range. You know. Lower latency and higher mhz. I got an 8gb cl8 1600mhz gskill kit for that same price. Also I would recommend the radeon 6850 for gaming. And with that motherboard you could crossfire another 6850 down the road for a good performance boost. The 6850 wont break the bank either, and has low power consumption, so even when crossfire you could probably get by with a 650w psu.

Gee wizz, thanks for you suggestion Acefire much appreciated,
I will update my ram to the 8gb you have.

Radeon 6850 seems great will definately look into it,

i just hope that it fits this case

just a question regarding the ASUS Pro Z68 motherboard
do you think its overkill or suitable enough to overclock,
what I do like is the SSD Cache feature and the Virtu where you can switch b/w graphics.

Do you think im better off with the ASUS Z68, (NON PRO version)
or even a Gigabyte UD3 or UD4 with the HDMI?

thanks ironsurvivor

do you recommend a different motherboard,

i only need the ssd caching featuring and want a reliable overclocking board

dont mind spending less on it just to have these few features, will require sata 6 though for ssd.

Are you certain that you want this board primarily for the ssd cache feature? From what I read about this feature, all it does is speed up HDD speeds. Using the SSD by itself for the OS would be faster that using this caching feature for the OS. I would prefer to keep things separate; the SSD for OS and HDD for movies and such. You could get a cheaper motherboard and surpass the performance of the SSD HDD caching. I think that SSD caching is tailored more for people trying to buy a small ssd to increase performance of HDD.
Also, you if you are interested in crossfiring at some point, you should look for dual pcie 16x slots on the motherboard, which you could achieve for a cheaper price than the suggested motherboard. Otherwise if you are not interested in crossfiring then save a little cash and look for a mobo with only one pcie slot.

you actually convinced me not to go for this board now, thanks for doing that actually because it seems logically smarter to have a seperate SSD for OS and HDD for other files. Easier on the pocket and more of a better option. thanks buddy.

just in regards to your question, yes i will be interested in crossfiring at some later point in time for future proofing of the latest game releases.
what typical motherboard would you suggest if i was to Crossfire, and also for stable Overclocking ability?

Im having a problem working a 120gb ssd into this build. How large do you want the ssd to be? Only big enough for the OS? or large enough for a couple games and software also?

Also, would you mind doing a couple mail in rebates? cause there is a killer deal on some gtx 460 2gb cards right now.

was thinking a 60gb Corsair Force Series 3 SSD for the OS, and some useful software.
not thinking of putting games on this.

i was reccommended GA-Z68XP-UD3 as it can overclock to 4.5ghz

and i think it has the x8,x8 SLI/Crossfire support
