So, I've recently pieced together my new(ish) budget gaming computer rig, full stats are in my profile under the name Budget Gaming. I'm here because I am clueless on how to overclock this board successfully, as watching videos or reading up on this chipset don't help due to the same BIOS utilities not being available to me. (They are different). So... My assumption is that I need a Q9650X so I can unlock the multiplier of my CPU, but I'll throw my system specs up below and maybe someone with some expertise can help me achieve an overclock.

Mobo: AsRock G41M-VS3 Revision 2.0
CPU: Intel Q9650
Memory: DDR3 1333mhz (link below for more specs)

The reason I really need help is that unlike my friends' mobo (Z97 board), I can't even find CPU Core Voltage ANYWHERE in Bios. What would be the best way to go about this to overclock? I can take pics of the different pages in the BIOS if necessary to help. Thank you for looking at this thread!

In this case it is your motherboard stopping you from overclocking not your cpu.

The motherboard is supposed to enable OC mode with the memory I have. I can change the FSB of the CPU, but am unable to do anything else

Hi, i'm not much of an overclocker, but a pushed Q9650 should require A LOT of amps (up to 100W or more for really high clocks), and i don't see the (necessary ?) MOSFETs for that on your board...

That's normal for a g41 chipset motherboard... They were never meant to overclock, some can, but most can't.

There are levels of qualities in all of the goods you can buy, and Motherboards are not an exception.
Expect (OC) performance to be in proportion to you paid for your MB (a low-cost MB will in most cases allow for low-level OC only):



EDIT: Also note the 4-pin power connector in your board (instead of the 8pin used in the board on the right), because that is a clear sign that this board is not meant to supply a ton of power to the CPU...
