Limit internet connection speed?

So here's the deal... my household has a 10mbps dl line. The problem is theres 3 people using the internet at once, so if my cousin decides to stream video, i get uber lagged. Is there a way so I can put a cap on their speed? Like each person gets 300kps maximum?

any router with QoS can help... just set everything to low aside from your game ports...

if you have a spare pc laying around, check out PFsense
I have the DLink 524
Can it work?
One person streaming a video makes you lag? Really? I'm on a 12mBit line and even if I'm close to maxing it I don't lag on online games.
i don't know, have you bothered even looking at the routers configuration or documentation?

a 5 second google search took me to http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DI-524 where i was able to figure out in about 5 seconds that your ancient router does not support QoS...

i have a rather insane router... and often have 20mbit of traffic while i game with a 30ms ping...

you're going to get **** results with **** hardware... throw your router away and buy a real one.

on a side note, you do know your nickname is missing the Z on your avatar right?
I have an old DI-524 lying around and there are no QoS features on it. Pretty much, the reason I upgrades was becuase of load balancing issues which is probably what you are experiencing.

I upgraded to a DIR-655 from D-Link and all problems went away.
