I just installed my new motherboard, so I had to reformat, and when windows asked me to activate, it said my cd key has been used too many times, and that I have to get a new one... I've only formatted twice before this. I thought that you could reformat as many times as you want... What gives?

Windows recognizes a new "computer" when a new mobo is installed. If it is the retail, then you can repeat the usage for the key as many times as you want. Which is odd.

Call them up and explain your situation and they will activate for you. They are very lenient with this as they should be, you bought the damn software you should be able to re-install it when you reformat. Just make sure you tell them it's only being used on one computer and if you replaced your mobo tell them your old one got fried in a freak accident.

All you have to do is call the # they give you on screen and tell them you reinstalled/reformatted because of an error/virus/etc. or just sya new mobo. I always do that

Oh yeah, remember, it's one one pc. If they ask you, only tell them it's installed on one computer otherwise they will ask you to buy a license key.

Oh and don't go saying all the stuff about the one pc and seperate stuff right off the bat. They will ask you. Just make sure you have the right answers.

Hahahha she didn't even ask what my problem was. She just mumbled some kind of dialect of english and I grunted a few times and she gave me the new activation number. LOL.

This has happened to me before. I hate it and the whole process. BUT, it doesn't mean anything (in my experience). I have always been able to get it to verify the second or third day for some reason, lucky for that poor CD too.. I have a BFH look'n for some action.
