Linux for scanning viruses?

I was wondering if anyone here has a "slave pc" that is used just to run files through and scan for viruses before they make their way to the Windows client?

I was thinking of using Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu, or redhat) and maybe something like Sophos or Panda virus scan. Anyone know of a good combination?

It's going to be run an a P4 1.8/AMD 1800+ XP, 512MB memory, around 20GB hard drive.
