Proper grammar, punctuation and spelling are encouraged on this forum. I never take the time to criticize others' grammar, etc. but when I see someone trying to defend a great product with a terribly thought out response, such as yours, sarcasm kicks in. ![]() Anyway, GIMP isn't superior to Photoshop at all. I'm all for people having different opinions. However, saying it's better because it's free simply isn't true. GIMP is free, yes. It's a very useful and powerful program, indeed. But going out and saying "GIMP is much better than Photoshop" is downright wrong. Next time, read through the post you're replying to and, if applicable, notice the smilies and the obvious attempt to make others realize there's no use in flaming each other. Everyone has an opinion. |

Well, I'll tell you this much- I started out just like you lol. I wanted to try something different, something new. Then I thought about linux, looked it up, and the FIRST distro I tried was gentoo...and oh my god was it hard.(I still haven't got it working to this day, and I gave up lol) you pretty much have to build the distro from scratch, its like an os-in-a-box. But, don't let that discourage you, I learned how to use fstab and fdisk manually...and a lot of stuff like that that you wouldn't really know how to do with ubuntu or SuSE. Also...SUSE is a piece of crap, I wouldn't use that unless your just so used to windows you can't stand it-because that's what it is-proprietary, and its really sluggish. it doesn't use any kind of standards..its in its own league of linux lol. I'd recommend ubuntu, its ok, but most of all, if your system can pull it off, I'd go for mandriva '06 or something, because its pretty cool. But I'd try knoppix or slax if you're still unsure, and you'd just like to test the waters a bit Another thing I'll tell you is that linux has a really steep learning curve, it takes a while to figure it out, but from what I hear, if you do learn it, its your best friend lol. One guy on the forums here, kopeah, actually makes his own scripts for linux. So all in all, its perfect if you want absolute control over your pc. |
