Wow. Sounds amazing. Been excited about graphene since the first time I read about it. Can't wait to see what this stuff can do.

Something similar probably has been posted (maybe not in the news section). I am positive that I haven't seen that specific bit of information related to the topic, optical drives aren't useless! I am even more excited with the prospect of building a custom UPS with great performance with this kind of technology

You haven't studied enough about capacitors then. Supercaps can replace batteries if they can find a way to curb the leakage.

Perhaps. I guess the keywords in your post are "any time soon." They may function differently, but if capacitor technology takes off faster than traditional battery technology... we may not be using a lot more super capacitors in 10 or 20 years. We may even see them working together in situations where you could rapid charge x% of the device in a few minutes, but if you leave it overnight you would finish off the other y%.

Isn't the storage capacity more of an issue? I didn't think there were any capacitors on the face of the earth that even come close to storing the same amount of energy you could store in a traditional battery.

Regular caps cannot. The newest super caps are getting closer. That technology is getting better and better. What I don't see getting better is the leakage.

The older generation of ultracaps are fun to play with. I picked up 12 of them a couple of years ago for $200. They're pretty common second-hand items these days, so if you want to play you can do so without breaking the bank.

2600 Farads @ 2.5V (8125 J / 135 watt-minutes)

Okay so water+graphite from my pencil + cd = uber battery?

What are they not telling me. How is this not already the case, i found articles from 2011 talking about graphene being a good conductor/storage of an electric charge.

lol, that looks like something you would put into the bottom of an electric car if it took batteries.

But how impact resilient would these graphene capacitors if they were to be used in cars and consumer electronics? Don't want my phone to explode on me if I dropped it on the ground, or the car if I got into an accident for that matter.
