Hey guys,

Mum and Dad are taking a holiday through Europe mid this year, and Mum is quite keen to take a tablet along, rather than one of our aging netbooks. She is comfortable with Android, and would prefer it since she has an Android phone, however I'm open to suggestions. Smaller would be better.

She wants to use it for maps, trip planning and bookings, some blogging, and photo management while she is away, but she is a music teacher and intends to use it as a tool in her classroom as well. With that in mind, she was wondering about getting something with a stylus, and whether that would be better for working with written music (can't exactly say sheet music

)?

She has said she wants 16GB or more memory, and preferably some option to expand with MicroSD. She asked about 3G or 4G, which I don't think personally is a huge deal, especially since there is only one provider with a 4G network at the moment in Australia, but hey, if you think 4G is musthave, tell me why

Thanks!

the nexus 7 is a grate tablet but it has no micro SD but you could use a OTG cable to connect a flash drive.
as for the 4g unless you are in the city you are probably not going to get 4g and i see no need for it unless she is downloading files like videos as 3g is normal fast enough for most thing like web browsing HQ youtube ect
some of the cheaper places to get the Nexus 7 in Aus are these sites, i think they are all imports from Korea (I know that kogan gets theirs for korea) but i could be wrong.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" is an option. They make a 3G version of it. Although it only comes with 8GB onboard (although some countries have a 16GB version), it does have a micro SD slot.

It is a bit slower than the Nexus 7 and slightly lower resolution but the screen actually has better color reproduction and contrast (especially for video). I own both and find them to be pretty similar except the Nexus 7 would be a better gaming device and the Samsung better for multimedia (especially given you can plug in 32GB micro SD cards).

The Tab 7 also has DLNA support which means you can wirelessly transfer video from it to TV's with DLNA support. I have tried this feature on a relative's LG tv and it works quite well. The Tab 7 also has an IR port so you can also use it as a super remote for tv's and home theatres.

Plus it is cheaper than the Nexus 7.
