I currently own the Dell U2717D, which is a disappointment due to a single reason... blacks are not dark, and image looks like butt in night setting. My old $200 IPS monitor has way darker black than this new $450 Dell.

I'm looking for something that has factory calibration for accurate colors, response time around 8ms, and deep blacks/good contrast ratio. Basically qualities that my current Dell has, plus deeper blacks.

I do gaming sometimes, but don't need high refresh rate or fast response time.

I'd really like to spend $500 max, but maybe could go to $600.

I'm clueless about what's good in the monitor scene.

Would you consider a VA panel? I tried the BDM3270QP2 since it is very cheap here in Europe, and it blew me away with the image quality and impressive blacks (5000:1 according to the Tom's hardware review). Factory calibrated as well. Sadly it does have a little processing lag and no adaptive sync, so I returned it
