hey guys,

i am getting ready to get a new laptop for school, and i don't even know where to start looking. i have been using a net book for a few years and it is about ready to crap out on me. I just need it to take notes and surf the web (no gaming at all). i would prefer a tablet PC so that i can simply write on it (it makes it easier for me to take notes). since i will be carrying it around all day, small is better. since i have been using a net book, i am use to slow, but would still like it to be manageable. i have no current brand loyalties and i would like it to have at least 2-3 hours of battery life. since this laptop will have to last me a few years i will be willing to spurge a little bit (just nothing over like $1500). any recommendation is great and welcomed.

Thank you in advance

EDIT: i will also be doing so photo editing

Have you ever used a tablet?...honestly I hate it...it's not fun at all...and I can type faster than that and also prefer pen and paper (yea that's me)...try one out before you decide

i have used plenty of them before, and i personally love tablets
and i agree that pen and paper is nice, but i would much rather carry around a tablet than carry around binders and note book for each class

@ieatfish
this looks like a great tablet, and has prity much only good reviews from what i can find... i have one question though. i will most likely be doing so photo editing (for got to put that in original post), would you recommend upgrading the RAM or anything else? i haven't gotten to use DDR3 or the i cores yet, so i have no idea how powerful they are.

@comgaurds
thats prity cool, but not quite practical

Either Dell's "Latitude X2" or Lenovo's X201 tablet would be good buys (or the newer versions of each).

I wouldn't touch the cheap laptops stuff with a 10 foot pole, I've had to do too much work on those to ever trust one. One of my friends with the HP AMD tablet model has had the motherboard die twice in under one year, and the build quality just isn't there.

When it comes to tablets you really have to spend the extra bit to ensure you get a well built and assembled computer, or else you will end up like my friends HP AMD tablet which feels like two fisher price toys very loosely riveted together.

I can relate to that... I have had to fix a number of old dells... However, it still looks like the tm2 is the best option so far... But does anyone know what the difference between the tm2 and the tm2t is?

This hands down: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Slate-EP121-1A010M-12-1-Inch-Tablet/dp/B004HKIIFI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302487237&sr=8-1]Amazon.com: ASUS Eee Slate EP121-1A010M 12.1-Inch Tablet PC: Computer & Accessories[/URL]

I got one about 2 months ago and I don't know how I took notes without it. It works wonders with OneNote and the writing recognition is very impressive (I have terrible handwriting). It comes with a bluetooth keyboard for when you have to write papers, but for day to day notes, I write everything. It is great to have all sorts of pens/highlighters at any instant as opposed to just black, too.

I would highly recommend the 64 gig version and also get a sd card along with that for extra storage. I think I had about 30 gigs or so left once I put the necessary programs on (Office, Adobe, etc...). This might be your best bet -- at least for a while.
