Read the sticky (high five) so i'll answer these questions.

What is your maximum budget? $500

What country are you in? US of A.

What will be the uses of this laptop? School, internet, some mild games if it can handle it.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you? I like Lenovo, but their prices from what i hear are a bit higher than Dell or HP. I like Dell because thats what we got my sister and she hasn't had problems.

What screen size do you require? 15" or so.

What screen resolution do you require? Not much preference.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay? So long as it's quality and has warranty to back it up, i don't mind much. I'd like to get the newest technology my budget allows, though.

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet) I don't really know. Do'nt have anything to compare to, never had a laptop.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings? Not much. Maybe TF2 if it could handle it. Or Minecraft.

What operating system do you need? (if any) Windows 7. If it doesn't have it, i'll install it. I may also dual boot Linux.

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.) Do'nt care.

How much hard drive space do you need? I'm sure it'll have plenty no matter what i get. Probably around 200GB, but i could easily make do with less.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.) Webcam would be nice, but not a necessity.

Is there anything else we need to know? I'm not getting a netbook. Been there done that. Decent speakers would also be nice. I don't need it loud, but i'd like it to sound remotely decent.

Well, my mom has a Dell Inspirion (we share) that has I3 processor, 4 Gigs of ram, and lasts roughly about 2-2 1/2 hours. Has Window 7, and I've played some Halo and L4D on it, runs just fine. It also has web-cam in it. It was roughly about 399.00 but with tax and other fees and such came to 472.00. Works fine, and is perfect for everyday tasks. That's just me though.

I'm thinking about getting this one myself and I got virtually your same needs for a laptop (except I don't want to spend over $400).

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...235&CatId=4937

its $399.99 and I think shipping is around ten bucks. With any luck you don't pay any taxes on it and it should be able to handle all your needs, including TF2 and Minecraft as long as you run the games on sufficiently modest settings.

Would be interested to hear what others think on this model.

Just bought a Dell Inspiron 15R with a 2.53GHz i3, 3GB of DDR3, and a 320GB HDD (need more space than that though, or else a massive external)
