Looking for a new wireless router

472 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Doogiehouser
I plan on spending ~$100 give or take for a good wireless N router. The router will be mainly used for gaming so any way possible to help ping, etc would be priority. I've looked at a few Asus ones and I believe the Netgear 3500L... but any other input would be appreciated.

To add, I also don't know to much about tomato, DD-WRT but from what I've picked up they are good firmware alternatives to the stock that comes with the router... so that would be nice if someone could help explain that to me and how I could best configure it for gaming.

Thanks

Doogie

i also have been thinking about upgrading my router. i have been looking into this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124332 its only $104 and it comes with free shipping. i live in ohio and from new egg its about two day shipping. It also got gigabyte Ethernet ports which are nice for gaming or streaming videos. also i currently own a linksys router and its pretty easy to setup dd-wrt on it

This is probably your best option:

Incredible specs, and it'll be DD-WRT supported very soon.

I believe that was another one I was looking at as well because I saw you mentioning it in another thread around here. The only problem is when I start really digging I tend to find that many of these ~$100 routers tend to have as just as many pros as they do cons. Hopefully the upcoming DD-WRT will help.

Also, I've never used DD-WRT before. How do I set it up for primarily for gaming?
