Hi there.

I have an old laptop that has data on it that is needed but it hasn't been used in years and the password has been forgotten.

I did have a program that was able to be put on a disc and booted from. It would then let you change or delete passwords for user accounts. The program is that I have reformatted since then and lost the program. Does anyone know of a similar program or the one I have described?

Alternatively you can use your own PC and just hook the drive up to it,just boot from your own and you should be able to access the data.

Would it be possible to install linux on the HD, then go into the windows folder from linux and just burn the stuff from there?

you can use trinity rescue disk, Ophcrack, and kain and able, they are the best three I use.

There is a backdoor to the admin password using the windows install disk, I've used this method a year or two ago for an old work PC. Just google it.
