Planning my first computer build, never build from the ground up before only remove and replace upgrading experience. Just looking to have someone look it over to see if anything is out of place. Use will be general use combined with lots of gaming (mmos, turn based strategy, dragon age) Only running 1080p so no need to get crazy on the gpu I figure I can sli later another 960 if i want. I will be reusing 1 SSD and 2 HDDs aswell as my corsair HX750 PSU from my current computer. Also i know the 200mm fan isnt going to be great its more for looks I like that case with the 200mm fan up front.<br><br>

I personally only buy the 4 pin PWM fans so as to take advantage of all the fan headers and speed controls of the MB....<br><br>
btw, when your export from pcpartpicker, choose the "BBcode" option like so...<br><br><a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/myZjgs" target="_blank">PCPartPicker part list</a> / <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/myZjgs/by_merchant/" target="_blank">Price breakdown by merchant</a><br><br><b>CPU:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k" target="_blank">Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor</a> ($214.89 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Motherboard:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a" target="_blank">Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard</a> ($134.99 @ NCIX US)<br><b>Memory:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-memory-blt2kit8g3d1608dt2t" target="_blank">Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory</a> ($149.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Video Card:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn960g1gaming2gd" target="_blank">Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card</a> ($203.13 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Case:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-caph530w1" target="_blank">NZXT Phantom 530 (White) ATX Full Tower Case</a> ($114.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfp121300" target="_blank">Noctua NF-P12-1300 54.4 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfp121300" target="_blank">Noctua NF-P12-1300 54.4 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-fan-rffz20su1" target="_blank">NZXT FZ-200mm LED 103.0 CFM 200mm Fan</a> ($17.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-fan-co9050017wled" target="_blank">Corsair CO-9050017-WLED 66.4 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($13.98 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-fan-co9050025ww" target="_blank">Corsair SP140 49.5 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($15.99 @ Amazon)<br><b>Other:</b> Swiftech H240-x ($150.00)<br><b>Total:</b> $1055.93<br><i>Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available</i><br><i>Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-12 04:28 EST-0500</i>

whoops never exported from partpicker. Fans is an area I really have no experience in. My current computer is an old dell 630i that until I replaced the mobo the fans ran only at one speed, new mobo I never messed with them at all because it just stayed cool from the start. Looks like I've got another topic to do some reading on after work today.

Do you plan on just 1080p gaming? Even if you SLI in the future, you may not have enough VRAM for that much longer on any higher res screens since VRAM doesn't stack when adding more cards. Another thought, though. I saw you chose an NZXT case. I don't know if you've ever heard of the NZXT H440 case? I think it's a pretty cool case and recommend checking it out if you haven't.

I looked at the 440, but I really like that 530. I considered a higher gpu but I'm at the limit of my current budget. In fact I'm not even ordering the gpu yet. Need more overtime to pay for thay so I will be using an older one temporarily, maybe I should just save up an extra $100 and get a 970.<br><br>
The 530 case comes with a fan controller so with that not having pwm fans I should still be able to adjust fan speeds correct? As long as I don't mind adjusting all the fans on the controller together I assume

I've been in those shoes before, took me ages to build my current computer... Just thought I'd throw out a suggestion on that case <img alt="thumb.gif" class="bbcode_smiley" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/thumb.gif"> It's recommended to get the 970, it's a really good gpu. I don't know how you feel about AMD, but man do they have some good prices right now on their gpu's. If you haven't, check out the R9 290 and R9 290x, great for the money.<br><br>
As for the fan controller on the case, it'll control the stock fans.

I think you've made some good choices overall, but I'd make a few adjustments:<br><br>
Changing from 16 to 8GB of RAM and going with a cheaper motherboard allows you to move up to a R9 290 and also to add a CPU cooler so you can OC your unlocked i5.<br>
I picked the U12P to keep with your choice of fans already, but you can switch it out with another if you like, of course.<br><br><b>EDIT:</b> i didn't see that you already had the H240 picked. Disregard the cooler but still get the 290 instead.<br><br><a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tC6LHx" target="_blank">PCPartPicker part list</a> / <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tC6LHx/by_merchant/" target="_blank">Price breakdown by merchant</a><br><br><b>CPU:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k" target="_blank">Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor</a> ($219.89 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Motherboard:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a" target="_blank">Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard</a> ($137.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Memory:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f31600c9d8gab" target="_blank">G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory</a> ($59.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Video Card:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-912v308002" target="_blank">MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card</a> ($239.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-caph530w1" target="_blank">NZXT Phantom 530 (White) ATX Full Tower Case</a> ($99.99 @ NCIX US)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfp121300" target="_blank">Noctua NF-P12-1300 54.4 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nfp121300" target="_blank">Noctua NF-P12-1300 54.4 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-fan-rffz20su1" target="_blank">NZXT FZ-200mm LED 103.0 CFM 200mm Fan</a> ($17.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-fan-co9050017wled" target="_blank">Corsair CO-9050017-WLED 66.4 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($13.98 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-fan-co9050025ww" target="_blank">Corsair SP140 49.5 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($15.99 @ Amazon)<br><b>Other:</b> Swiftech H240-x ($150.00)<br><b>Total:</b> $995.79<br><i>Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available</i><br><i>Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-12 12:32 EST-0500</i>

yes, I agree with p4inkill3r. 16GB of RAM probably isn't needed and the R9 290 is a great choice.

Changed all but the 200mm fans from p4inkill3r/your list for PWM, so you can control them automatically from your MB/software.... <img alt="thumb.gif" class="bbcode_smiley" src="http://files.overclock.net/images/smilies/thumb.gif"><br><br><a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6vB9vK" target="_blank">PCPartPicker part list</a> / <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6vB9vK/by_merchant/" target="_blank">Price breakdown by merchant</a><br><br><b>CPU:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k" target="_blank">Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor</a> ($219.89 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Motherboard:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z97a" target="_blank">Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard</a> ($137.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Memory:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f31600c9d8gab" target="_blank">G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory</a> ($69.98 @ OutletPC)<br><b>Video Card:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-912v308002" target="_blank">MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB TWIN FROZR Video Card</a> ($239.99 @ Newegg)<br><b>Case:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-caph530w1" target="_blank">NZXT Phantom 530 (White) ATX Full Tower Case</a> ($99.99 @ NCIX US)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nff12pwm" target="_blank">Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.50 @ Amazon)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-case-fan-nff12pwm" target="_blank">Noctua NF-F12 PWM 55.0 CFM 120mm Fan</a> ($19.50 @ Amazon)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-fan-rffz20su1" target="_blank">NZXT FZ-200mm LED 103.0 CFM 200mm Fan</a> ($17.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/bitfenix-case-fan-bffblfp14025wrp" target="_blank">BitFenix Spectre PWM 56.1 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($15.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Case Fan:</b> <a class="bbcode_url" href="http://pcpartpicker.com/part/bitfenix-case-fan-bffblfp14025wrp" target="_blank">BitFenix Spectre PWM 56.1 CFM 140mm Fan</a> ($15.99 @ SuperBiiz)<br><b>Other:</b> Swiftech H240-x ($150.00)<br><b>Total:</b> $1006.81<br><i>Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available</i><br><i>Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-02-12 18:44 EST-0500</i>

Thanks for all the help. I've done a lot of reading the last few days on pwm fans and decided to stick with regular fans. I already have some of these fans on my "shopping" list anyway.
