So I've been working on upgrading my g73jh, I have a 920xm, SSD, etc.
Next upgrade is a 7870m which is on the way but I need mod the heatsink for it.
Here is the stock one

Here is the 7870m

The 3 tabs of metal I will be cutting off to fit. Now we get to what I need advice on.
I was thinking of getting a sheet of aluminum and cutting it too for the VRM area on the new GPU and bridging that plat to the main plate/heat pipes for more active cooling.
Would this be effective or just a bad idea? Are there better ways I could cool the VRMs? Should I just add chipset sinks?
Any advice on how to mod this heatsink or similar experience would be great.
Also, should I even bother with trying to actively cool the chokes?
I suppose another question is do I really even worry about the VRMs on a 45w card? I don't plan on doing much overclocking with it and the stock sink doesn't seem to cover the 5870 VRMs except in one spot
