Looking for Q6600 (Air) Quality Cooling

663 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Humming Bird
Well, I'm currently planning a new PC, for July 22
And I've chosen the Q6600 as the CPU and a "GIGABYTE GA-P35-DQ6 LGA 775 Intel P35" as my motherboard. Issue is, the motherboard has a huge NB heatsink and has a bottom plate cooler. Any idea what the best air cooling solution for this would be? (Price doesn't matter, as of now)

Oh man, looks like you'll be limited to a push pin style cooler.
Have a look at the Big Typhoon VX, or a WC set-up. Link
Thermaltake Big Typhoon (NOT VX!), Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme, Tuniq Tower 120, Enzotech Ultra-X.

You sure that will clear the heatsink tower? I got another similar mobo I just saw (also gigabyte, p35), without the cooler back plate, AND ITS $100 CHEAPER! Still has the heatsink tower, but no backplate issues. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128047

Is there any other difference I am failing to see between these two boards?

EDIT: Oh, it lists mem speed 1066 as "OC", so there might be some temp/stability issues w/ my mushkin 1066 ram i chose? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146677

Oh, so, not big coolers that need support units that mount on the back of the motherboard?

AHAHHAHAHA OWNED. Plus, that Gigabyte cooling jungle is more of a gimmick than my Asus.
At least my P5K runs at 600FSB.

Your northbridge will probably run cooler than with all of those heatpipes and random little heatsinks. If you want a really high OC I would recommend picking up Mosfet coolers.

Get teh-cheaperZ onE of them.

The Big Typhoon VX is a great choice. It's a high-end air cooler so you'll be fine.

BTW, next time just post the direct to the product. Not just the links to the pics.
I guess i'll update my first post info with what's here: http://www.overclock.net/2440518-post5.html

Or you guys got any nice mobo that can run 1066 ddr2 memory to recommend? (Of course, mobo's gotta have some nice basic OC features, ain't OC'ing extreme, but probably going to try the Q6600 at around 3.0)

If you get the cheaper board, go with the Ultra Extreme.
IDK about your Ram questions, SRY
