Loud Fan Spooling.. wth? PS3

Well, I haven't tinkered with my Ps3 in a while... tbh i usually use it to watch movies, and I havent had the time as of late. Well, I decided to fire up the old dog (its an original 60BG) and play some devil may cry... but I noticed there was a system update. So, I start downloading it, and like 3 minutes into downloading the fans in my PS3 turn on high. I figure its probably a minor thing, it usually does it randomly for like 20-30 seconds tops then goes to normal for a few minutes... but I'm completely wrong. Turns out the fan wont go back to its low\
ormal setting, ever. What do you guys think is wrong? btw, I'm using HDMI and using the component AV for audio.

Hmm could be many things, from your situation. Since you havent used it in a while. i would guess that there maybe a good dust buildup in there. The PS3 is very sensitive to dust as it gets very hot. Try using a micro vacuum and passing it on the air vents.

Thanks for the tip. I blew some canned air into it, very very minute dust build up... however, I think I found the problem... I don't think one of the fans is working. Its the one where if you stand the PS3 upwards, its the very top vent. I think this is bad, anyone have a clue as to a) how to fix and b) If I didnt fix, what will happen?

edit: disassembled the PS3... it wasnt the fan, lol. I guess 1080p makes the ps3 fan spool up. Didn't ever notice it before, lol.
