i just gave my 8800gt to my son and got a ati 4850,now when i put fallout 3 on i get 30 to 40 fps out side.and it feels stuttery, with my old 8800gt i used to get 60fps dipping in to the 50s,butter smooth with same settings.1680x1050,and brothers in arms hells highway wont even start, ive tried hot fix drivers and 8.10s.only game that runs smoother than my gt is cod4.is this a common problem with ati.im thinking of going back to nvidia.

The two cards are pretty close performance wise. The ATI cards have been having trouble with Fallout 3, not so much with performance, but more with just general bugginess.

I would guess your best shot is to start trying different drivers, 7.**, 6.**, etc.
Try running 8.9...Thats what I did and it ran better...

No they are not, not even close, maybe in fallout 3 but the 4850 is highly superior to the 8800gt.

The 4850 doesn't just blow it away, that's for sure. It's not good enough for me to upgrade to, that's for sure.

Well I believe Fallout 3 detects the 4850 at ultra high graphics. Maybe turn it down a bit because I believe the 8800 is set to high if I am not mistaken.

I don't think it is drivers because I have yet to run into any errors or fps lag in this game.

I agree I was having some problems with the newer drivers (8.10, FC2HF) Went back to 8.9 and its running fine. HDR is still a bit messed up though.

4850 has been shown to be about 15% better than 8800gt... for about 15% more in price....

Yes 8800GT's are starting to fade from benchmarks but 8800GT in SLI is way up there in the charts (close to GTX 280 in some games)
