My friend's machine, which is built out of my old motherboard and graphics card is having problems. Everytime he inserts a CD, it BSODs.

As he put it:

'I have this problem with my new machine, I would try and put in the disc of either Battlefront 2 or Sims 2 and as soon as it read the CD a blue screen 'machine check exception' would appear.

Well anyway i installed Flash and the problem disappeard...so i thought. I installed both games and started to play them. Then i encounterd this problem with battlefront 2 it would just crash and ide have to restart my machine. Now sometimes the same bluescreen appears!'

Back to me: He says that inserting a CD will uniformly cause his computer to BSOD. This sounds worrying. Anyone got any ideas they're willing to share?

Thanks, as always.

What a spastic. Changing the DVD-ROM drive seemed to do the trick. However, so this thread does not go to waste, can anyone tell me what a MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION is?
