Hi there ..
I have a problem installing a new HDD and appreciate ur help ..

I'm installing a Seagate Barracuda 250GB HDD with IDE cables as an additional storage on Windows XP SP2

My processor is AMD ATHLON 64 and the Mother Board is Lanparty DFI ..

The main Drive that I have the OS on is WD with SATA Cables ..

And
I can manage to see the Seagate HDD that I want to install by setting the jumber to Cable Select .. and able to create a partition and only see it from windows ..

but when I try to open the drive I get a message telling me that it's not formatted and I have to format it , and when I try to format it gives
"MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION" Blue Screen and I have to restart ..

any help in solving this problem will be appreciated, and thank you all in advanced ..

1. Try updating the BIOS and get the latest IDE drivers.
2. Could it be a faulty drive? Faulty cable?
3. How are you trying to format it? Using the Device Manager?
4. Is there anything else on that IDE cable like a CD or DVD drive that could be causing the problem?
5. If you are overclcked try running at stock, maybe clear the CMOS.

That is all I can think of now.

try to change your jumper to master and if there is a cdrom on that ide cable too, set that to slave
