Madden 10 jagged edges on LCD

1533 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  kingwilliam
I had my xbox 360 hooked up to my 57" rear projection tv (1080i) and it had beautiful graphics.

I recently bought a 47" LCD that runs 1080p and now when I play Madden Im getting a lot of jagged edges that I didnt see before.

I put Assassins Creed 2 in and the graphics are amazing, even better than they were on the other TV.

Any idea whats going on?

You make sure the Xbox is set to 1080p in the system area of the dashboard, along with widescreen.

Yes, thats the first thing I did. The settings on the console were 1080i and I changed them to 1080p as soon as I hooked it up.

It seems to only be doing this on Madden.

Maybe the disk is faulty.

you try returning it.
it's an xbox. Anti aliasing is much better on PC
I remember seeing that game, and saying "that could use some AA", the group i was with agreed.

Its not the TV, its the game.

It works great on my other 1080i tv

i am going to switch back to 1080i on the xbox and see what happens.. but this seems unecessary..
the projection, along with the interlacing probably reduced the appearance of jaggies, but now that you have an LCD panel, showing you exactly what the xbox is spitting out, jaggies show up. the picture is clearer, showing the faults of the original image.

i don't think there is anything wrong here
I switched to 1080i and there was no difference. I hooked up to my big TV (old 57" rear projection) and the graphics are flawless.... MUCH better, with no jagged edges at all. Thats how I have been playing it forever... I bought the 1080p LCD because I wanted to play at 1080p and its worse........ but only in Madden. sigh.

I think youre right. I guess I will have to live with it. Its not THAT bad, but I am just one of those people who really pay attention to graphics when I play games.

This is why I prefer a PC over console; more control over whats being sent to the screen.

Thanks for the replies

This is correct.

Madden has a horrific amount of aliasing.

The Xbox360 gets either 2-4x AA almost for free due to the way its architecture is setup.

Maybe try altering the sharpness of the TV, if it was up really high that might affect the image. Rear projection TVs are usually nowhere near as sharp as an LCD from what I've seen, so the jaggies you're noticing might just be due to the sharpness of the LCD TV that you're not used to.

some of the jaggies are horrible..... it looks like a damn 8 bit nintendo game, but other times it is the most defined grapics I have ever seen...

I have been reading in some madden forums and apparently this is a known problem.. maddens lack of aa, that is

I will take a picture of a good example... give me a few min
this is because madden's overall engine probably hasn't been changed since madden 2005, it has no where near the AA that is considered standard these days
Well I was using the component cables out from the Xbox which, on the old TV, looked great. I switched to an HDMI cable and the graphics look a LOT better.
