At 78 I'm taking up games. Do I need a controller to play Madden properly?

You don't have to have one to play but it is rather difficult to play with the keyboard and mouse. If you do get one make sure you get one with the two control sticks on the front so you can use "playmaker" and "hit stick".

Have fun,

It will definatley run. You will probaly have to lower your detail to get it to run smoothly though.

Madden 2005 PC requirements:
Windows 98/2000/ME/XP 800MHz Intel Pentium III 128MB RAM (256MB RAM for Windows XP) 2GB hard disk space 8x CD-ROM drive 32MB Direct3D video card DirectX 9.0b

Lower my detail. What's that?
Thanks for everything so far.

When you install the game there are default detail levels.
(The game has preset levels of visual quality)

The problem is that your video card probably won't be fast enough to run at default (stock) settings. This shouldn't be to much of a problem because you can go into your settings and turn down the extra detail to make it run better.

August 30, 1926. That's a lot of beers ago.
I've been serious about the computer since 1983; in my second
childhood, I'm due a little fun.

The Logitech Dual action is a bit easier to use if you aren't already used to using an X Box controller. Also, it comes bundled with some of last years EA Sports titles.

I've ordered the Logitech, which appears to come with USB cable.

I find it fascinating that someone of your experience would be interested in something as juvenile oriented as video games. Never the less, I think its awesome! Keep Rockin!!!

I have no business to conduct online, just my bank and tax matters, plus communing with friends and family, plus ordering new computer junk or surfing,
I have to fill in my time (however much remains) with something new and, I hope, fun. Might as well be games!
