My psu 4 pin cpu power is too short can i make a extension cable by maybe cutting the wire and maybe use speaker wire to extend it?
The CPU is a AMD PHENOM 6950 and the PSU is a stock HP its a 300 watt psu and the 12+ and 5+ rail can output 268 watts

You need to use 18 AWG if you wish to do it yourselves.

Oh gosh yes 18AWG

Speaker wire would probably not hold up to the amperage.

or save some effort and get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812123300

$4.50 lol

Edit: I know I probably don't need to say this, but in case you forgot, you better heatshrink the splices (or at least wrap with electrical tape)!
