So basically i said i would clean up the parents Toshiba, i have it running quick enough, problem is its vista loaded and only has 1gb of RAM, im just wondering can anyone suggest any memory management software that will efficiently close processes etc?

You can turn off all the eye candy, but it will still run slow with 1gb of ram. It would run a whole lot faster xp on it.

Have you disabled some of the services that aren't needed? This is a good site to look at if you haven't.

I have a similair problem to you(parents calling me down) lol, but could you ask them and tell them the benifits of linux?

And btw, do you have sp1 installed?

If his parents are anything like mine they wouldn't want to try linux and wouldn't be able to use it.

Honestly, the solution is to just get more ram, I'm not sure what prices are like in Ireland but its like $10 for another gig of ram in North America. If they don't want to upgrade they should change the theme to classic mode, and turn on enhanced performance on the hard disks, this is done by going into device manager, selecting the disk and going to the policy tab, make sure caching and enhanced performance are checked.
