Matrix RAID 5 CPU usage when idle?

I was thinking if getting two more 500 GB WD drives to run a RAID 5 configuration for storage. I hear software RAID 5 will use up lots of CPU cycles when writing and reading. How about when it's just idle?

Quad will be crunching so I want the most out of my CPU.

Windows vista idle will use up more cpu than software raid. You have a Quad what the heck you worried about. I have a ICH9 controller it uses about 4% when I tested it with HD tune.
