The 6L250RO has twice the cache and is about 75usd cheaper than the 7Y250P0.

The only difference i could find in Maxtor's web site is that the 7Y hdd is MaxLine II series and that it has less cache. So, why is it so significantly more expensive ???

What's the catch ? what's the real differences between those 2 Maxtor HDDs ?

note: that both are IDE as my mobo does not support SATA.

The more expensive one is probably being discontinued. If the drive with more cache is cheaper, why're you asking?

because i am not sure if there are some other factors, that i am unaware of, which make the more expensive HDD a better one.

e.g. the more expensive drive is MaxLine Plus II series, while the other (with the 16mb cache) is Diamond Max 10.

as i have already said, the specs are the same, except the cache.
But i am not sure if there are some other characteristics of the Max Line Plus II family that make the expensive drive better, faster, e.t.c. this is why i ask you. Anyway, thanks for the answer.
