I have a Maxtor Ultra 16 300GB internal hard drive. I have a bunch of stuff on it and all of a sudden it stops working ! When I plug it in the computer when the computer is off, then restart it, it won't boot up because of the Hard drive but it is spinning. Then I tried to put it in an incloser kit and the incloser kit can't even run it...it just makes a high pitched squeal! What do i do?

You could try putting it in the freezer overnight. That might only make it work for a couple hours.

That never worked for me. Out of about 10 HDDs.

Could try putting it as a slave in a secondary PC if you haven't already.

Don't buy Maxtor or Toshiba or Hitachi. I've had about 10-15 drives fail on me in a dry, room-temperature enviorment! My Seagates and WDs on the other hand have been the most reliable. I haven't had to replace a drive from them yet!

Maxtor normally has good drives, the only drives that have ever failed on me were WD. Seagate is awesome, and I believe they own maxtor now. Either way best of luck, hope it wasn't irreplacable information. I lost 30gb of family photo's that I hadn't backed up to a WD drive that was only 2 months old. Was about a year ago, wasn't very fun.

It already died. Does the S.M.A.R.T. program help tell you when your HDD will die?
