May I get a suggestion if replacing my GPU is worth it?

I put up a thread a little while back and the suggestions and information some of you provided was excellent. I really appreciate the insight that comes from all of you, and your efforts to help me out.

I currently own an AMD 64x2 4200+ processor 2.21ghz with 2GB of ram.

My GPU is a 6800GT and is about to kick the bucket.

I wrote up a previous thread on suggestions for prices and models for parts and what my best choices were. I explored that option and now I would like to explore a different one.

If I were to simply replace my GPU to cover me for a 6 month period until I buy my new rig, what would you suggest and where could I find out if this suggested GPU can be used to its potential given my specs of what i currently own.

Keep in mind when I do buy my new rig, I most likely will get a new GPU to go with it. So it doesn't have to be the BEST GPU for my sepcs, just a decent upgrade from this 6800 GT.

Thank you all in advance.

What resolution? Go to the user cp tab at the top of the page and fill in your system specs. If you are planning to get a new card with new build in a few months, try to find a used 8800GT or similar in the FS section. You can find a card that is much better than that one for pretty cheap if you go used.
I would recommend you look into a HD5750 or HD5770. Either one will be a huge upgrade for you, and they're not too terribly expensive. You could also look into a HD4850 or HD4830 as well (about $50 cheaper). Those would also be great upgrades.

From Nvidia cards (if you must), 9800GT or GTS 250. Another thing is what power supply you have as well...and your budget. The HD5750 would probably be your best bet if you have a somewhat weak power supply.
If you just want something cheap to tide you over until you get a whole new system I would recommend an 8800gt/gts, 9600gt or 4830.

I own a wide screen LG W2353
My Power supply is 450 watt

This is why I'm slightly confused on what I should do because I know my Power Supply isn't great, but it's just to tie me over for 6 months I'm not looking to start changing all these pieces.

I'd say get a 5750 then. A HD5750 will use less power than an 8800GT / 9800GT, and it'll be much more powerful (roughly the same as a GTS 250 or HD4850). The HD5770 only uses 112w under load, so I can't imagine the 5750 would use much over 100w under load. Your 450w PSU should be PLENTY for that.

Thanks so much everyone. Ill check out the 5750. Ill just have to make sure that the actual connectors from the PS work with the new 5750 i suppose and I should be good to go.
Yeah 5750 is good for that build but try to OC the CPU to get more performance. I ran my 4850 with my 3700+ @ 2.8Ghz and had no problems.

Im using DDR1 2 gigs of ram atm, my MB wont allow me to put anything else in. Is OC really worth it? Would it change the performance of my GPU drastically?

Oh yeah. Going from 1.8GHz to 3.0GHz on my old Opteron 165...gave me like 20 extra FPS in Crysis. Made the difference between a slideshow and 100% playable. Made huge improvements in other games as well. If you have overclocking options on your motherboard, its definitely worth doing a little research and trying it out

Where would you suggest I look for a beginners guide to OC an AMD 64x2 4200+?
