i.e. something like a Microsoft Natural 6000, but with keys that this 30 year Bass Player won't pound into oatmeal in 6 months. (...not much of an exaggeration: I have to buy new every year because something or other stops working)

I've found split boards... but none of them have a full sized home/numpad.

Gotta exist??

No??

Man, I wish there was a mechanical Microsoft Natural 4000. I think that would be the most perfect keyboard ever. Good luck finding one though - I never managed to find anything satisfactory when I was looking for the same thing, and so eventually just settled with the Filco. It turned out great though, and I honestly don't miss the Natural 4000 - much.

Look into the Chicony KB-7000 and its rebrands. I have a PC Reveal KB-7061 which is a rebranded KB-7000. White Alps switches, split ergonomic with a full sized numpad.

Halciet - Yeah: A mechanical MS 4000/6000 would likely be the most perfect ever...

Couple of choices then - Either hunt down a Chicony, or order the Truly Ergonomic and use a separate keypad.

Thank You Christine(Imnop) and Phaedrus.

There's one just like mine (the PC Reveal) on ebay right now, though for a bit more than I paid. Same seller. He'll sometimes do dirty tricks with pictures (blue shifting to hide yellowing), or make stuff up in the description, but Geekhackers have bought a lot of keyboards from him and he has yet to rip anyone off.

It's a good keyboard, better build quality than most of Chicony's keyboards (makes the KB-5181 feel like junk; which it was), and the white Alps are pretty pleasant, though not my favorite switches. I think it might be a good option.

remember if your comparing the ergo4k to just a basic split keyboard, it won't have negative slope(yea you could just put a binder under it) or the slight tilt towards the center (none have these unless they are super weird kinesis) or the nice molded faux leather wrist rest.

going from an ergo4k to just a split keyboard is basically the same as just going back to a regular 104key, there's almost no difference!

I'm pretty sure the DataDesk Smartboard (Darwin Board) is no longer available. As is true for most of the keyboards pictured in the OCN Mechanical Keyboard Guide.

The Northgate is better:

Switches look the same, feel different. Ripster will explain it to you, he's an Alps expert and connoisseur, and lives for this stuff:

Webwit, I didn't realize this thing had doubleshots.

My happiness with this purchase just went up 10%.
