I have windows xp home edition on my comp but I am wnat to do some more multimedia stuff with it. I was wondering, is it worth upgrading to Media Center edition or would I be better off just staying with home.

Specifically the multimedia stuff I want to do involves editing video and pictures as well as putting my DVD's on to my hardrive.

If your putting DVD;'s on your HD the i would fo the upgrade as MCE has a setup that will put all the thumbnails together for easy browsing. it may also help with the organizing of pictures as well . . .i have it on my laptop and used to use it all the time (use my desktop now). I dont believe MCE has any advantages for video editing though. . .i could be wrong? .. if its on ur desktop i would suggest getting a tuner card and the remote as well so you can have a full fledged DVR (great if you have HBO ) and home theater setup.

What about for a new build? I'm mostly going to game, run 2D Graphics Software(Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw), and surf the net, but I have a large library of Mp3's and family pics. Is the media aspect worth it, or would Home suffice?
Thanks,

home would suffice, media is really built for precompil;ed systems with the remote and all . .other than the looks its pretty much just WMP . . i still suggest pro or MCE though since the networking features seem MUCH more advanced then home. . .i HATE setting up networks with M$Home.

I would go with media centre only if you didn't have to pay more for it; it definatly wouldn't be worth paying the full price of the OS over.
