Just thought I'd show you guys some of the differences between the DX11 and OpenGL builds.
Linux picture followed by Windows.
Both games are maxed out without any special tweaking.
I'll post more if people are interested.

<img alt="" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="1731887" data-type="61" src="http://www.overclock.net/content/type/61/id/1731887/width/500/height/1000/flags/LL" style="; You won't notice much difference graphically in most cases. The two have regularly traded blows with each other for every release.

What about frame rates?

All I can really notice is that Tessellation is missing in Linux (which is expected). Stuff is flatter. I think I've just gotten to used to having it. When it is there I don't really notice it, but things really look lacking when it is gone.

That shadow though...that looks like an error.

Have any more shots of just shadows?

I don't have that information but both run pretty smoothly.
I'll see what I can do.

Quote:

Nice. Pretty impressive how close things are, despite it basically being Windows port. If/When they make another Metro Game, I'd be willing to bet that it'll be on Linux day 1, which would be a lot more interesting.

Like I said before, I wonder if they're actually using OpenGL 4+ or just using 3.x?

The latest Mac OS only supports OpenGL 4.1.
They probably stopped there.
4.2 introduced tesselation I believe.

Actually...according to OpenGL.org it came in 4.0.

I don't think I've seen it used yet though...I didn't even know OpenGL had tessellation capabilities til now.

Ah yes, 4.0.
4.2 added extra tesselation features.

I'll probably ask the developers what's going on.
It's pretty clear that the Linux port isn't on par with the Windows version.

Lacks tesselation.

Textures and shaders look better on Windows.

Also, it seems some post process effects are missing on Linux.

That's probably where the culprit is. They may have ported the Mac ver. to Linux. It seems like a stupid idea for Apple NOT update OpenGL features when their some of their old OS are perfectly capable of OGL 4+.

The Game doesn't look better on Windows because of DirectX.
The developers didn't use the OpenGL equivelents.

DX better than OpenGL?
Show me a feature that current games use that can't be done with OpenGL.

^it's not about what can/can't be done. it's about what has/had been done. and so far, nothing's special has been done on OpenGL, graphics wise.
