Hot deal for Macs I guess. It's $200 off of retail. In store only.

Link.

What do you guys think? I'm tempted to buy one myself and run Windows 7 natively instead (no bootcamp, just Windows). Imagine running a MBP w/ a Thinkpad logon screen
But then again I heard battery life sucks when running Windows, which would make it not worthwhile.

Still deciding b/t this and a Toshiba Portege R835...

Regardless of Apple having overpriced laptops, those who want to purchase a 2011 macbook should buy this if they have a Microcenter around their area. It is a good deal nevertheless because they rarely have sales for new macbook pros.

You are basically paying Apple for the rights to use OSX.

Well, I don't want to run OSX anyways, just Windows.

Can you guys recommend a 13-14" laptop w/ sandy bridge processor, 7+hr battery life, and ~4.5lb or less for under $1000? Not being sarcastic or anything, I really need to buy a laptop for the fall.

Dell XPS 15 with 9cell battery! It may not get 7 hours but you'll have more graphics horse power under the hood. Right in your price range with exactly what you want. Make sure to google for dell xps coupons, I'm sure there's a $70 off coupon.

This and if you are really bothered by battery life, buy another 9 cell and keep it in the bag you carry your laptop around in and voila you just doubled your battery life.

Here you go [ame="http://www.amazon.com/U36JC-B1-Light-13-3-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/B004LUU7E4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302124710&sr=8-1"]link[/ame] lighter too. And it has Windows 7 so you're good to go.

You're also paying for design and chassis. Speaking from an IT standpoint, there's no easier laptop to work with than the unibody MacBooks. Speaking from a consumer standpoint, that probably doesn't matter - the $999 price tag does. However, the solid-aluminum chassis is very rugged. Having had two students drop theirs onto concrete from chest-height, aside from a small indentation on the corner of one of them, you wouldn't know it had been dropped. The other managed to get away with just a scuff. Computers still work great.

Had it been any other laptop with the typical plastic body? Bits of broken plastic or cracked chassis for sure.

your giving the unibody too much credit. these mbp aren't as tough as everyone made them out to be. from my experience they dent and scratch pretty easily.

Don't need that much graphic power for Office though. I'd rather have integrated video if it saves battery.

That'd defeat the whole purpose of buying a portable laptop.
