???

I have 3 AAKS (before they started the blue name) and they have been going for 5+ years

500, 640x2 all fine

Though I would get a 500 gig F3 instead of the WD

but is a zacate e 350 enough to surf the internet ?
isn't it just a little faster and more responsive than the atom ?

Anyway I'd still go with the I3 2100, even if more expensive, it's truly faster.

That is a crazy price for a dual core. When you can spend $20 less on the cpu alone and get a AMD x4, also the AMD MB's are cheaper

Enough to surf the internet? IT does starcraft 2 http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1470/8/

and ofc it run internet smooth and blueray/1080p vidoes on youtube

and 2gb should be enough so you can save another 26$ there

Acctualy after crunching the numbers the original board and i would only save 8 dollars for the ion, and the other board is just a little to basic for my tastes, and would loose a lot of the features of the higher end board, so I have decided to go with my original plan except for the F3, thanks everybody

Beware of the HSF options in that case. Even the relatively tiny HSF that ship with 65W~95W TDP Intel processors don't fit well in that case. This is actually one case (pun not intended) where the Core i3-2100T is recommended, not because of its low 35W TDP but because the included HSF is even shorter and fits perfectly inside the case without needing to swap out the PSU.

Sorry, I have no idea. Given the cooler than came with my Sempron 140, though, I'm inclined to think you may have an issue. This thread seems to support my theory:
MI-008 M4A88T-I deluxe, cpu/fan won't fit
Ignore the suggestions for the Scythe Big Shuriken and the like. Those are already taller than stock Intel cooler (and I would guess the AMD one, too) so I can't imagine those fitting when the stock won't.

A suggestion, perhaps consider the Asus P8H61-I ($85) + Core i3-2100T ($135)? Motherboard is cheaper than the Asus M4A88T-I by $40 so that would help offset the CPU cost. There's also a Pentium G620T 35W TDP that would probably be coming out next month at a more bearable price (~$70 1ku). Hmm, perhaps the Silverstone NT07-AM2 might also fit.

rdrdrdrd, does the system need to be quiet? What's the real budget? How fast does it need to be? How small would be best? Does the system need an optical drive?

Just an FYI that is not a very good case. Its claim to fame is being inexpensive. The PSU is mediocre, the case gets cramped once you get parts in there and the thin Intel CPU coolers barely fit.

A dual core Atom is fast enough to do most web surfing as long as you don't open a zillion tabs.

The Intel setup does have some benefits such as super low power usage that the AMD setup can't get close to matching. Along with low power usage comes low heat output, which is a consideration when doing really small systems. Also, if you don't actually use software that takes advantage of the extra two cores, the Intel chip is faster.

the budget is $500 MAX without monitor and keyboard/mouse, it needs an optical drive, noise is no consideration, as long as it is not a leaf blower
, what case would you recommend, it should be as cheep as possible

I guess you're stuck with that Apex case then.

To save more money you can do a Zacate such as was suggested. Newegg's morning Shellshocker deal this morning is the MSI board at $95 after rebate. Again, this is including a dual core CPU that is a bit faster than a dual core Atom.

I'm torn between suggesting the E-350 and i3-2100...

Either way you will be fine, the former is a beast graphically (for an 18W) and the latter is a truly fast budget CPU.

Good luck.
