Hi there,

I have 3 ram sticks, one 256 pc2700, one 256 pc2100, and one 1gb pc2700.

Obviously this makes them all run at pc2100 however i want to utilise my cpus 333mhz FSB. Can i overclock the pc2100 to run at 333mhz just by setting it to 333 instead of auto in the bios? Or will this affect the other ram sticks by making them overclock as well?

Thanks

It probably won't run that fast.

PC2100 (266Mhz) -> PC2700 (333Mhz) is a pretty big jump.

Do you NEED that one old 256? You have a gig and a half.. Wouldn't a gig and a quarter but faster be better?

I vote for taking out the slow stick.

please fill out your system specs under userCP, that way we can help you better......
is it an dual channel mobo? if it is, try identical sticks in the 1rst, and 3rd memory slot, it doubles your memory bandwith if its supported.....

OK basic specs

Mobo : Asus A7V8X-X

CPU : AMD XP Athlon 3000+ Barton currently at 1750mhz due to my ram

would it be worth buying an extra 256 pc2700 ram for £20 to replace the pc2100 stuff, then i wouldnt need to overclock to keep it at pc2700 speed?

I understand that you cannot mix ram size types in the first 2 slots is that correct? otherwise i would just take it out of the system completely.

I do want to get my CPU running at the full 2.1ghz with 400 fsb but i dont think i can stretch the ram that far, especially with one at pc2100.

I dont want to fork out £80 for a gig of pc 3200

any thoughts?

you will need to run a divider on your memory, and yes its better to replace the pc2100 module, but if your system can run dual channel i reccomend to get another 1gb stick......(also fill out your system specs under userCP)

The A7V8X-X doesn't support dual channel AFAIK.
Please fill out your system specifications by pressing "UserCP" at the top of the site, and navigating to the "Edit System Specs" menu.

Ok so i can have my 256 pc2700 in the 1st slot, then the 1gb in the second slot? and just leave the pc2100 out entirely.....

do i still need this divider thingy?

I'm thinking about replacing the whole lot with 2 sticks of 512 samsung pc3200 but im not sure if my mobo will take it...
