Mobility Radeon HD 3470 Benchmark Thread

Alright, I'm in the mood to do a little bit of benchmarking, and since data on laptop video cards is hard to find, and generally horribly done I'm going to try and improve on that.

I'm using FRAPS to benchmark real gameplay, no time demos since I'm only trying to represent realistic usage, and I'm only using a single video card.

I'll update the thread as I try more games.

The System:

Lenovo T400
Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz/3MB L3)
2x1GB DDR3 1066 (7-7-7-20)
ATi Mobility Radeon HD 3470 (680/800MHz, 256mb DDR3)
320GB Seagate 7200.3
Windows Vista Business x64
Catalyst 8.52 (Custom switchable version from Lenovo, can't update
)
14.1" 1440x900 LCD

Fallout 3

The test was conducted in 800x600 windowed mode, all settings on the lowest possible, vsync "off". Overall I would actually say this is somewhat playable. Aiming with the track point was a real pain, but movement was alright. The game automatically detects the Xbox 360 controller and as long as you don't mind relying on VATS the game should actually be enjoyable. Unfortunately gameplay was not as smooth as I would have liked, but this has more to do with the engine itself than the framerate. Even at 55FPS on my 9800GTX+ the game still stutters due to the poorly implemented vsync.

I did a 70 second test wandering around outside Rivet City, as from my experience this is one of the most demanding areas of the game.

Minimum FPS: 17
Average FPS: 22
Maximum FPS: 27

Civilization 4

Strategy games are often tricky to properly benchmark, as there is little going on and there are frequent pauses. I believe Civ 4 forces vsync, and caps the framerate depending on what is going on, as the values I recorded in FRAPS were stayed at either 0, 30, 40, or 60. I'm fairly certain a faster computer would run it at a constant 60fps however the effect wasn't noticeable with the 3470. I tested the game on both medium and low settings, but I threw out the low data as I believe it uses a cap of 30 fps and it looks absolutely horrible. Gameplay on medium at 1440x900 was smooth and very enjoyable to play, with only an occasional hitch while scrolling too fast.

Minimum FPS: 0
Average FPS: 31.59
Maximum FPS: 60

(Forgot to grab a screenshot of this one, I'll get it soon)

(Possible) Upcoming tests:
Counter-Strike: Source
Team Fortress 2
Left4Dead
Half-Life 2
Mass Effect
Unreal Tournament 3
Flight Simulator X
Tom Clancy's HAWX

Good Results but be careful with Mass Effect, you don't want to use up one of your activations for a benchmark. I apologize for this but

"Will it Run Crysis?"

I have the steam version of Mass Effect, so no SecuROM, I don't think I have to worry about that.

I might still give Warhead a go, but that a 5GB download for a single benchmark run.

How does this compare to the 8400M GS, I have one of those in my laptop I could test to provide some sort of reference to your results

Bump for Civilization 4 update. This one was a bit messy and I had to throw out a few results because of the frame cap. I've had a busy week as well, hopefully future updates will come sooner

Hey Cool! This is a thread I didn't expect to find. What about overclocking?

You don't OC laptop video cards...

Believe it or not I haven't even used the 3470 since I started this thread. GMA 4500 does everything I need and it doesn't even get hot.
