Modding 3 yr old HP case

1266 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Spritanium
I have an HP mid-tower case from an 3 yr old pavillion a1034n that I plan on re-using and modifying to house an AMD build for my sister. She is eventually going to become a techie like myself and wants to help with the build. My question is, should I just buy a cheapo case and use that or succumb to the modder in me and use the HP case. These are the parts I plan on putting in it:

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128392

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103674

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227479

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341022

HDD: using a year old 250GB SATA drive

CD/DVD: using my left over drive from my last build

Cooling: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185093

Suggestions and ideas are welcome.

it depends if the hp case will fit all atx parts otherwise it won't work
I'd highly suggest against reusing the case. Very minimal air flow/management and space. Better off spending 30 dollars on some cheap-o
You could reuse the case with little to no modification as long as you use a mATX motherboard. Actually, a ATX board like you linked wouldn't even fit in that case.

It should. I did some research on the case and the only thing I may have issues with is the PSU, which should be easy enough to work around.

Nice work slothfish!! +rep for you. Thanks for the encouragement. I look forward to modding the crap out of this thing now. Not sure if I can make it as purdy as yours, but I'll try and post some pics of the build.

Here is the Antec 300 for $35 after the rebate. I wouldn't bother with the HP.

Wow, cool mod.

Are those the thermaltake fans with the pci fan controller? I have one in my case, and I love it.
