Me and some friends go up to a cabin everyone in awhile but there is no internet access. We are highly internet dependant and would like to game a bit up there. Would i be able to purchase a modem such as this one and just plug in our current CATV cable into the modem and pull internet service?

If the same company offers internet service at that location, then yes, just plug the modem in and call the company to activate the service.

Not if the cable in the cabin is not in your name. The person who has the cable account will have to call and request the internet service. The cable company will schedule a tech to go out and activate the internet service on the cable box that is on the property (in most cases). Although if it has had internet before, it should just be a phone call. However, it will have to be the person who the bill is in the name of making the call to activate the internet service.
