Modern Warfare 2..How is it?

So the games been out for a while and I've heard a lot about it; good and bad.

How actually is it? I've bought cod2, cod4 and codwaw and would quite like to buy this one.

Is the lack of dedicated servers a massive problem?

thanks

I like it a lot.

I have no problems in MP, and the Campaign was amazing despite it being short. Spec-Ops is fun with a friend, but I don't like it if I'm playing by myself.

It's worth the money to me because it's still a fantastic game and runs amazing.

I've yet to experience lag, and the matchmaking works pretty well. The maps in MP are awesome and I love them MUCH more than any of the maps in COD4, but that's my opinion.

If you liked the other COD games and don't think that dedicated servers are needed to make a game fun then you'll like it.

I'm a casual gamer, so I enjoy it, but if you're a hardcore gamer then you may not enjoy the lack of dedicated servers.
I have mixed feelings. The price is not worth the length

Its a childs arcade game.
Play something that takes some skill like Arma2
I don't care for the single player at all, of all the games I buy, I never play the single player.

The multiplayer is all I really care about which is why I am hasty of purchasing. I don't think I am prepared to pay £30 for just some dodgy multiplayer, or so I believe.
Despite all the melodrama from people who DON'T own it, the MP is pretty fun.

Man, ARMA II is like the only game that pwns my 5870, when trying to max it out. Agreed though, awesome game otherwise.

It's alright, I still like CoD4 multiplayer better though since it's a much faster paced game.

It's alright without dedicated servers, but I hate the constant host switching, which pauses the game for 15 seconds or so and in 1/10 games I usually get a bad host, which usually ends up disconnecting everyone from the game.

For $40, it was alright, but I'd never pay the full retail price for it.

it's alright

From what you said, I wouldn't even consider buying it

What pings do you usually get on the servers you play on? Does the host get a massive advantage?

It's either the ping is really good, or the ping is really bad and A) The bad host leaves or B) The game gets disconnected because of the bad host. I've had few semi-laggy games, and if I do run into those I usually leave and play another server.
The SP is meh.

The game is full of infinitely respawning baddies, couple that with the dumbest cliffhanger I've seen in a video game and a plot that makes about as much sense as a road map of downtown Atlanta and you have a game that's worth MAYBE 20 bucks.

MP probably isn't any better, but I never even bothered to try that. I had enough problem getting onto crap servers in MW1...

Proof that stupid sells better than anything. They will prolly put it close to thriller due to the sheer amount of purchases. I did not want to be so blunt but yeah ... the game should have stayed in development a bit more.

It was decent, but definitely not worth the $60 pricetag if you only play the SP (like me).

Pros:
- Intense cinematic action
- Large weapon arsenal

Cons:
- Criminally short
- Infinite respawns are much more noticeable
- Seems much more pray-n-spray with some levels having you face 15-20 guys on screen at once alone. Feels more like James Bond than a military shooter.
- Many of the immersion elements (ie. first person cutscenes) were lifted almost directly out of MW.
- Feels like a DLC pack for Modern Warfare

For me, the original Modern Warfare was like XP -> Vista and MW2 feels like Vista -> Windows 7. I think a lot of the value in MW was the distinct air of FPS revolution, where MW2 feels more like FPS evolution. I had much more fun with World at War.

Single player is good, co-op is kinda cool to play with a friend, but they totally ruined multiplayer.

just get it
Yeah i like it alot. Cn't get enough of the multiplayer. So good and no where near as bad as people say it is.
When it works. The multiplayer is REALLY fun. The best multiplayer game ive ever played.

However, there are issues with the IW.NET system and is just generally bad.

+1 about the switch hosting it can be annoying but once it starts its no different than COD4 to me. I bought MW2 last night and played for 4 hours and I didnt have any lag the whole time. It still would be better with dedicated servers though. Only issue that I had was it would randomly minimize to the desktop but it seems to be an issue with AVG 9.

Hmm, at the minute it looks like I will be holding out for BF:BC2 which looks amazing. I just hope that it doesn't end up a horrid console port.
Its a pretty good game. Campaign is epic (the ending is sweet
)
